Abstract

This classic of military studies introduced scientific principles to the study of war. Though unfinished at his death, it represents Clausewitz's determination to single-handedly categorize the factors that determine success and failure of military plans and actions. As such, it lays the groundwork for all subsequent modeling efforts in the realm of military operations in general and C2 in particular. This edition includes not only a brief biographical sketch by the translator, but an extensive introduction by its editor, attempting to put the unusual military conditions of the Cold War into Clausewitz's context.
