Abstract

This discussion of operational C3I is Orr's attempt, arising from his study at the Airpower Research Institute, to describe the basic issues surrounding C3I in the context of classical theory (e.g., Clausewitz, Sun Tzu) and some simple, traditional models of C3/C3 processes (e.g., Lawson, Boyd). He first details his view of the nature of combat operations, then what he calls `the combat operations process,' then command and effective command, and finishes by integrating his conceptualization of C3 and C3I into the combat operations and problem-solving processes. He includes detailed notes for each of his chapters, and a brief bibliography, but no index.
