Abstract

Divided into four sections, this collection of articles (published for the Institution of Electrical Engineers) contains an introduction to artificial intelligence (AI) in C2 (two papers), a discussion of uncertainty and complexity (three papers), five papers on intelligent data fusion, and four on intelligent situation assessment and planning. Most authors provide a short bibliography or reference list, and a brief index is appended. This collection has the distinction of being largely British in its authorship, a rare feature of C2 anthologies. A short preface observes some reasons for the tendency of C2 systems to become more sophisticated, suggests a basic paradigm for understanding the human decision making process, draws together the sections of the book , and presents a trio of AI capability requirements.
